The Free Table That Became the Heart of My Home

After moving to Nakano City in Nagano Prefecture, I needed a dining table for my new home.
Buying a new table would have been expensive, and I wanted to find a more affordable option if possible.
While visiting a recycling shop in Ina City, I was looking through the furniture section when a staff member approached me and said,
"You can have this table for free if you'd like to take it."
I couldn't believe my luck.
To turn it into a high table, I only needed to buy a few wooden legs and some screws. After bringing it home, I assembled it myself.
I've always loved second-hand shops. Even when I lived in Australia, I often visited op shops and found unique items with character and history.
The project worked out perfectly because I was also able to continue using the high chairs I had used in Myoko.
What started as a free table became a beautiful dining space that fits my lifestyle perfectly.
Today, this table has become one of my favorite places in the house.
I sit there while watching the sunset, writing blog posts, updating my Etsy shop, enjoying meals, or simply relaxing with a glass of wine.
For me, sustainability is not only about reducing waste.
It's about finding value in things that others may no longer need and giving them a new purpose.
This table reminds me of that every day.
